Trump and Russia

Since becoming a candidate for elective office and throughout his presidency, Trump had consistently supported and defended Putin and Russia at the expense of the United States. Some characterized Trump’s behavior as treasonous.(1) Watch this recent interview conducted by Axios where Trump does verbal somersaults to justify his decision to not contradict or confront Russia on serious foreign policy issues. Among numerous appalling statements on Putin and Russia, Trump refused to acknowledge that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election on his behalf even though the CIA, FBI, and the NSA have thoroughly documented and repeatedly affirmed that Russia interfered in the election with the goal of helping Trump win. This fact was also documented in the Mueller Report. Further, in 2020, the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee investigated and released a bi-partisan report that confirmed Russia’s 2016 election interference with the objective of helping Trump win the election. At the 2018 Helsinki Summit, Trump announced to the world that he sided with Putin against U.S. intelligence agencies in regards to Russian election interference.  Based on his actions and words, it’s clear Trump was deferential to Putin. There is evidence to suggest money may be at the heart of Trump’s obsequious attitude towards Russia. (2)
