The Facts on Trump are not Partisan

The facts on President Trump make it clear that he was unfit to serve as President of the United States.  Facts are not partisan in nature. Established facts are provable aspects of life and reality that we all can observe and share together.

Fact #1: Trump embraced and solicited assistance from foreign governments to get elected/reelected.

The words and context of Trump’s communications witnessed by millions of Americans and thoroughly documented undeniably demonstrates that he welcomed and requested election/reelection assistance from Ukraine, Russia, and China.  Even if you believe that Trump’s communication and behavior in this regard didn’t rise to the level of impeachment and removal from office, do you really think such behavior was a good idea?  Does any American citizen (besides Trump), regardless of political persuasion, accept the premise that foreign involvement in our elections is desirable?  Imagine a foreign government employing vast resources and money to influence the outcome of a United States election that benefits their country and conflicts with the interests of American citizens. Since the inception of the United States, interference of a foreign power in our elections has always been a serious concern. Sadly, this concern was an ominous reality under Trump.

Fact #2: Trump consistently employed offensive, racist, and divisive language.

Employing language to intentionally offend and divide society along ethnic, racial, or cultural fault lines is an appalling endeavor by any American citizen let alone the President of the United States. A strong leader unifies. A weak leader divides. Trump consistently and undeniably used racist and offensive language throughout his presidency which further deepened the divisions within our country. Being racist does not require wearing a white hood. Racism is manifest in a variety of ways. Using racially-tinged language or making racist comments is a manifestation of racism. A recent example: In reference to NASCAR banning the confederate battle flag at events and a noose that was found in Bubba Wallace’s garage at Talladega Superspeedway, Trump tweeted:

“Has @BubbaWallace apologized to all of those great NASCAR drivers & officials who came to his aid, stood by his side, & were willing to sacrifice everything for him, only to find out that the whole thing was just another HOAX? That & Flag decision has caused lowest ratings EVER!”

Imagine asking Bubba Wallace, NASCAR’s only current black driver in the top racing circuit, to apologize for someone hanging a noose in his garage. According to Trump, the person responsible for hanging the noose doesn’t need to apologize or didn’t do anything morally or criminally wrong. What kind of sick mind comes up with such nonsense. It’s unconscionable!  Then, Trump further assailed NASCAR for banning a flag used to defend the institution of slavery and employed by white supremacist groups.  How anyone can characterize Trump’s tweet as anything other than racist and divisive is baffling. Trump’s communications demonstrated a lack of intelligence, understanding, and outright bigotry with no interest or ability in leading a wonderfully diverse country.

Fact #3: Trump consistently and blatantly lied.

Trump labels anything that does not benefit him as fake news.  Yet, Trump consistently lied about everything.  The lies were so numerous, ranging from relatively small concerns to significant governance and policy issues, that it’s a challenge to articulate them all. Most of his lies were easily fact-checked by comparing Trump’s own words on any given day and his documented words a day, week, month, or year earlier. One of Trump’s most significant lies was that Russia did not interfere in the 2016 presidential election. The CIA, FBI, and the NSA thoroughly documented and have repeatedly affirmed that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump win the election. This fact was also documented in the Mueller Report.  Then, in 2020, the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee investigated and released a bi-partisan report that confirmed Russia’s 2016 election interference with the objective of helping Trump win the election. How could Americans trust anything Trump said about anything?  Well, we couldn’t.

Fact #4: Trump engaged in criminal conduct.

Trump is referenced as an unindicted co-conspirator for violating campaign finance laws in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.  Further, the Mueller report documents numerous instances of obstruction of justice by Trump (see article: Trump, Power, and the Presidency: An Informed Opinion). These are crimes!  And serious crimes. One of the articles of impeachment against President Nixon was obstruction of justice. The corruption and obstruction of justice by Trump and Nixon are disturbingly similar.

Just these facts alone demonstrate that Trump was unfit to serve as President of the United States. Trump’s bogus narrative of his presidency doesn’t change these facts or his unfitness for office. These facts should be disturbing to any American regardless of political persuasion.
